London at the heart of England's successful 2018 World Cup bid
LCA prediction made October 2009
With the UK about to enter an unparalleled decade of international sporting events Ryder Cup in 2010, London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games, Rugby League World Cup in 2013, Commonwealth Games in 2014 and Rugby Union World Cup in 2015 - England should be well placed to win the bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup when the decision is made on 2 December 2010.

However recent reports in the media have suggested that England's bid is suffering with senior FIFA official Jack Warner stating that the plans were 'lightweight' and criticising the bid leaders for not using star players and well known figures to promote the bid. In addition there have been a number of changes to the team with Karen Brady and Paul Elliott appointed as directors to try and shift the perception that the board lacks diversity and is dominated by politicians.

We predict that these concerns will quickly be forgotten as England's bid gets back on its feet and submits a winning document on 14 May next year for football's blue ribbon event in nine years' time. Additionally, we predict that London will be the focal point for the tournament with three London stadia chosen alongside Wembley to host the matches.
