CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES
LCA was commissioned to set up an official Surrey Canal Road Station campaign to convince politicians and transport officials that investment in the station would be vital to the planned regeneration of the area.
THE LCA ROLE
We established a campaign group to co-ordinate the efforts of high profile supporters including local MPs, senior councillors and local business representatives. We developed a strong logo and visual identity for the project and created a campaign website and Facebook page to drive supporters to an online petition. We identified and directly contacted 300 key stakeholders, while leaflets were distributed locally and amongst fans of Millwall Football Club whose ground sits at the heart of the site. A proactive media campaign supported all activity alongside questions raised about the station in the House of Commons and at the London Assembly.
With 6,300 signatures collected and media coverage running across the local press for months, the campaign helped galvanise local and regional politicians. Negotiations were successfully concluded to fund the station as part of the regeneration and, with the area now designated as a Housing Zone and re-branded as New Bermondsey, the plans are being delivered.
