Context and Objectives
In 2006, LCA was appointed by CH2M HILL, Laing O’Rourke and Mace (CLM) initially to assist their bid for the Delivery Partner contract to project and programme manage the delivery of the venues and infrastructure for the London 2012 Games.
Following the success of this bid we were retained by CLM to handle their profile and PR throughout this enormous project.
The LCA Role
LCA’s role has been broad ranging to meet the needs of the organisation at different stages of the Olympic project. LCA staff were seconded in to CLM for the first 18 months of its contract – setting up and leading its communications team and providing the communications interface for the ODA with delivery teams on the Olympic Park.
Following the recruitment of an in-house team, our role evolved to focus on strategic counsel, communications planning, proactive and reactive media handling carefully coordinated with the ODA, and intelligence monitoring.
Quite apart from the evident success of the project itself, we played our part in the original bid win, setting up and leading the CLM communications team in the early stages and helping recruit a permanent in house team.
We managed close coordination with the ODA over six years to ‘speak with one voice’ from the outset and targeted proactive opportunities including a 22-page special New Civil Engineer supplement about CLM’s work with contractors and the client.
